Sandra Bullock and Leonardo DiCaprio are among the many high-profile celebrities donating to the critical relief efforts for those, both human and animal, that have been tragically affected by Hurricane Harvey in Texas.
Each Oscar-winner has donated $1 million.
Yesterday, United Way Worldwide announced that it had established the United Way Harvey Recovery Fund, a national fund which will distribute 100 percent of donations for recovery in the affected areas, community by community, in the months and years ahead.
The inaugural donation to this newly established fund was from the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, which made a $1 million contribution to directly support victims who have been impacted across the region.
“We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of Leonardo DiCaprio and his foundation,” said United Way Worldwide President and CEO Brian Gallagher. “Responding to Hurricane Harvey requires the best of all of us – and that’s what this gift represents. United Way’s Harvey Recovery Fund will provide much-needed help for the communities along the Gulf Coast where lives have been changed forever.”
Sandra Bullock, who has a home in Austin, Texas, has also donated $1 million to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. People reported that she’s hoping that despite polarization in the country, the storm will bring people together. “There are no politics in eight feet of water,” Bullock said. “There are human beings in eight feet of water.”
The list of kind-hearted and compassionate public figures that are contributing to help relief efforts will undoubtedly continue to grow. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart, Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Nicki Minaj, and Drake are among those who have also already donated and or have pledged to help.
Earlier this week, Rachael Ray, also announced on her Facebook page that she donated $1 million to specifically help and protect the animals of Texas.

“We will continue our commitment to work with national and local organizations to assess needs and provide the additional earmarked funds,” she wrote, noting that the donations were made via The Rachael Ray Foundation. “Thank you to all who are donating their time, effort, and money, as goodwill to our neighbors is most important during times like these.”
