Retired Circus Animals Perish In Animal Shelter Fire In Romania

An animal shelter housing animals retired from the circus went up in flames Thursday morning, killing a number of animals including two tigers, four cats, Vietnamese pigs, and three dogs.

The Emergency Situations Inspectorate said that seven tigers, six camels, ponies, goats, a kangaroo and greyhounds had thankfully been saved by firefighters .

The fire had started in the shelter’s wood roof and ceilings and although the shelter had a fire extinguisher, Globus Circus manager Victor Coman tells national news agency Agerpres they did not have a hydrant with a big hose

Coman says the surviving tigers would be rehoused at the Bucharest zoo in Romania.
