Campania, ITALY-Twenty-six baby endangered Loggerhead sea turtles hatched on a beach last Friday night and swam into the sea.
Although the turtles typically breed in the Ionian and South Mediterranean seas, global warming has impacted their ocean habitat. Marine biologists and volunteers are ensuring that their eggs are protected from humans, and have been monitoring the number of eggs, the weight of their newborns, and the shells’ shape.
Loggerhead turtles are endangered due to the toxic impacts of overfishing, environmental pollution, and coastal development.
