VegWeek, a nationwide campaign organized by Compassion Over Killing (COK), begins today in the United States and runs through April 22nd.

“There are 52 weeks in a year. Why not make one of them meat-free,” is the concept behind the event that was launched by COK in 2009 after then Maryland Senator Jamie Raskin, who is now a U.S. Congressman, noted that a simple way each of us could help protect the planet is to choose vegetarian foods at least one week out of the year.

Many high-profile people agree and are not only participating in VegWeek they are encouraging others to “take the pledge” and join them.

Actress and author Alicia Silverstone; recording artists such as Belinda Carlisle, Mya, and Grey The Rapper; professional athletes including Olympian Dotsie Bausch and bodybuilder Torre Washington; and animals like Esther The Pig, are but a handful of personalities supporting the increasingly-popular campaign which is quickly becoming a hit internationally as well.

The campaign is a great way for people to begin to discover the many benefits of forgoing meat in their diets.

Even better, the 16,000-and-growing participants will also feel satisfied that they are not only helping to protect their own health but are protecting animals and the planet as well.

If you haven’t already, join us and thousands of others and take the VegWeek pledge HERE!
