Big game trophy hunter Luciano Ponzetto, 55, sparked uproar when he killed an African Lion and posted his photos on social media last year. The photos quickly went viral and caused controversy surrounding trophy hunting around the world.
American dentist Walter Palmer was also publically shamed for killing Cecil The Lion in Zimbabwe last year.
Ponzeotto was a veternarian but the controversy around his big game trophy hunting forced him to step down as medical director of a kennel business.
Officials say Ponzeotto was out hunting with friends when he slipped on ice and fell 100ft into a ravine at Colle delle Oche in the hills above Turin, Italy.
News about Ponzetto’s death was first reported by Italian media outlets on December 10th. Ponzetto was “chasing prey” when he slipped on ice and fell more than a dozen meters into a deep ravine.
