Breaking! ARM Investigation Uncovers Abuse Of Battery Hens At The Largest Supplier Of Eggs In The United States, Cal-Maine

Animal Recovery Mission (ARM), released the results of its latest undercover investigation of factory farm animal abuse this morning, along with a video documenting the horrific conditions battery hens are forced to endure at the Cal-Maine Egg Farm.

Cal-Maine Egg Farm is a public company that is based in Lake Wales, Florida, Cal-Maine is the largest producer and marketer of shell eggs in the United States supplying to retailers such as Walmart and Publix Supermarket.

The two-month operation, conducted by ARM undercover investigator retired U.S. Army serviceman, decorated with tours in Afghanistan and Iraq, captured surveillance footage of the extreme abuse suffered by caged battery hens in order to produce eggs for human consumption.

The graphic footage revealed the most deplorable living conditions and inhumane treatment subjected to laying hens in the egg production industry.

Up to 10 hens, both living and dead, were housed in small, overcrowded battery cages, with inadequate water, food, and sanitary environments, as well as ‘walls of cockroaches.’

ARM also witnessed extreme abuse and torture to the hens who were kicked, punched, thrown, slammed against the ground, beaten to death with sticks, pulled apart alive, and jammed in cage doors where they suffered agonizing deaths from being crushed.

These brutal actions were executed by both employees of the facility and managers alike, and are clear violations of company codes of conduct, and animal welfare policies required to be a humane certified business.

ARM brought forward evidence from its in-depth investigation to law enforcement agents, which, according to the organization, resulted in a Cal-Maine manager, known as Matthew, being charged with animal cruelty, including excessive and inhumane beating upon animals under his supervision.

ARM is currently working with Investigator J. Scarborough with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and assisting in any way needed with their investigation.

The Cal-Maine investigation is a part of ARM’s newly developed factory farming division designed to further expose crimes against animals in factory settings, and raise awareness to the society who is purchasing these products, unaware of the abuse.
