Breaking! Burger King Launches The New Impossible Whopper With Plant-Based Meat

It may have been April Fool’s Day, but yesterday Burger King announced that it is not joking around when it comes to its newest offering, The Impossible Whopper.

As noted by Impossible Foods, the Impossible Burger “is just like the classic Whopper, but made with an Impossible patty.”

This tasty plant-based burger is topped with tomatoes, lettuce, ketchup, pickles and onions just like the original Whopper, catering to both vegetarians and vegans, it’s a must-try.

According to Impossible Foods, their burgers are primarily made from water, soy protein concentrate, coconut oil, sunflower oil and other natural ingredients. The company uses heme, an iron-containing protein molecule that they claim gives their burgers a taste similar to that of meat.

“We’re making meat from plants. That’s never been done before,” Impossible Foods founder Pat Brown told Brian Cooley of CNET. “People have made plant-based replacements for meat, but they haven’t made plant-based meat.”

Impossible Foods reportedly went to great lengths to improve everything about the new 2.0 version of the large, flattened patty, even creating it to fit perfectly in the Whooper’s bun.

“The remarkable thing was how unremarkable they were,” noted Cooley who tasted both versions. “Nothing gives away the fact that this Whopper contains a different main ingredient.”

In its first step to bringing the Impossible Whooper mainstream, the fast-food chain, owned by Restaurant Brands International Inc., is testing the new menu option at 59 Burger King’s in St. Louis, Missouri. The eatery reportedly plans to offer the Impossible Whooper, which costs an extra dollar, in more of its 7,100 restaurants throughout the United States later this year.

The Impossible Whopper is a win win for everyone!
