Brookville may be a small borough in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, but it is currently the center of worldwide outrage after a video of teenaged residents Cody Hetrick and Alex Smith torturing an injured deer went viral.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) noted in a post on its Facebook page that it is “aware of a video purporting to show individuals assaulting an injured deer. The conduct portrayed in the video is reprehensible and potentially a violation of the law.”

Potentially? It is absolutely a violation of the law and these sickening young “men” should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

While information on the progress of the case remains limited as the investigation is ongoing, WAN spoke to Travis Lau, Communications Director of the Pennsylvania Game Commission who expressed his indignation about what they consider to be a shocking unprecedented event. Lau noted that Brookville is a small community where everyone knows each other, including the perpetrators and their families.

When WAN inquired whether the department also viewed a third video of Hetrick and Smith ripping off the poor deer’s antlers, he confirmed that they did, and most importantly, that charges will be filed and they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The family of one of the boy’s reportedly owns the appropriately named restaurant, The Devil’s BBQ. WAN also tried to contact the owners of the restaurant but to no avail; most-likely due to an onslaught of angry calls they are receiving.

As per Travis Lau, the commission is also being inundated with calls from the public. Outraged comments on the commission’s social media platform are demanding that the boys be prosecuted and have their hunting licenses revoked permanently. The number of concerned citizens outnumber the total population of Brookville, which is estimated to be around 4,000 people.

It is not shocking that the incident appears to have taken place on the opening day of Pennsylvania’s controversial deer hunting season.

There is an indisputable correlation between hunting and animal cruelty, and this travesty is yet another reason why the hunting of innocent animals should be banned.

If you have any information related to this incident, please contact: Operation Game Thief Hotline at 1-888–PGC-8001 or the Game Commission’s Northwest Region Dispatch Office at 814-432-3187.

People are also encouraged to sign a petition urging that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, as well as numerous other decision makers, prosecute these sickening young “men” to the fullest extent of the law HERE!
