An Australia-wide hunt for the sub-human who used his vehicle to deliberately run over and kill an estimated 10 emus yesterday on a dirt road has ended with the arrest of 20-year-old Jacob MacDonald from Pinnaroo, a small town near Victoria.

According to numerous outlets including the Daily Mail, an ex-girlfriend identified MacDonald as the person in the shocking video that was released on social media. The appalling video showed MacDonald barreling his car across more than a dozen emus, counting proudly each time he hit one of the innocent animals.

While the RSPCA New South Wales has not yet updated their website or Facebook page with the most current information, yesterday it took to the social media platform to inform members of the community that their inspectors were reviewing the footage to try and determine when and where it was filmed. They had also requested help identifying the mustached-man, who appeared to be laughing maniacally in the heartless video.

“Such horrific cruelty clearly has no place in our society,” noted the post from the RSPCA’. “The RSPCA unequivocally condemns this type of behavior, as it clearly shows a disregard for the lives of these vulnerable native animals, and raises grave concerns about this individual’s capacity for such behavior.”

As per the RSPCA, MacDonald can face up to 5 years in prison and $22,000.00 in fines under the NSW Crimes Act. He will reportedly be charged for animal cruelty, animal torment, destruction of protected wildlife, and traffic offences.

It is tragic that reminders about the links between people who abuse animals and their advancement to commit violence on humans are increasing.

Even worse, there are unfathomably still some people who try to make excuses or condone blatant animal cruelty such as this.

A friend that came to MacDonald’s defense, told the media outlet that he may have been “attempting to rid his property or his place of employment of the ‘out of control’ emus;” similar to how he controls kangaroos on their farm because they are “pests” as well. So ridiculous!

Native to Australia, the distinctive grey-feathered ostrich-like Emus, who stand up to 6.5 feet tall, are known as fast-running flightless birds.

Tragically, they were not fast enough to escape from MacDonald and his weapons of choice, a cold and compassionless heart and a four-wheel drive.

The poor animals never had a chance.

May they R.I.P. and may MacDonald rest uncomfortably in jail where he belongs!
