Breaking! Mass Dumping Ground Of Cows & Shocking Conditions At Ray-Mar Farms And Ranch In Northern California Exposed In New DxE Investigation

Investigators with the animal rights network Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) released an undercover investigation of Ray-Mar Farms and Ranch in Northern California, revealing thousands of baby calves confined to crates barely larger than their own bodies, suffering from respiratory issues due to filthy air, thick with ammonia.

Investigators also discovered a mass graveyard of dozens of adult and baby cows teeming with maggots, just a few feet away from calves’ crates. According to the organization, the massive beef production operation, which supplies to Costco and In-N-Out Burger, has been protected from criminal prosecution because of the political influence of large agribusiness concerns, including ties to figures such as Ivanka Trump.

(California’s Proposition 2) passed in 2008 with overwhelming support of California voters. The proposition prohibits the confinement of certain California farm animals in a manner that does not allow them to turn around freely, lie down, stand up, and fully extend their limbs — in particular, baby cows which are called (veal) in the meat industry. But despite dozens of reports of violations from DxE and others, no farm has been successfully prosecuted under the law during the three-plus years it has been in effect.

Without accountability or transparency, the DxE activists believe that they have no choice but to take action themselves. They claim that their actions are justified under the California Penal Code Section 597e, which grants citizens a statutory right of entry into animal abusing operations. They cite an opinion by a prominent criminal legal scholar at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law .

“Californians care about animals,” said investigator Julianne Perry. “But large corporations continually ignore the animal cruelty laws — and target activists who expose their misconduct.”

DxE states that consumers are opposed to such abuses, but are deliberately shielded from the truth in coordinated efforts by government and industry to silence whistleblowing activity.

A previous DxE investigation of a Costco supplier resulted in FBI raids of animal shelters searching for a rescued baby pig. The activists say Costco continues to deceive consumers about the “freedoms” given to animals raised in their supply chain.

With 58 activists arrested on multiple felonies at a demonstration on September 29th, 2018, DxE says their actions will continue despite the prosecutions.
