Breaking! Outraged Animal Advocates Stop Monkey Rodeo From Taking Place At Baseball Game In Connecticut

Proving once again that they are not monkeying around when it comes to the rights of animals, outspoken animal advocates are responsible for the cancelation of a controversial rodeo that was scheduled to take place this summer in Connecticut.

Last weekend, upon learning that the Yard Goats, Hartford’s minor league baseball team, was promoting an appearance by the Cowboy Monkey Rodeo during one of its games, Our Companions Animal Rescue began a successful campaign to stop the event before it was able to start.

“The Hartford Yard Goats have plans to bring the Cowboy Monkey Rodeo to Connecticut on June 14, 2018. This event uses capuchin monkeys and border collies to chase sheep around the baseball field,” the organization noted on its Facebook page. “Any event that uses animals is inherently exploitative. While this might seem like a harmless activity, at its root it is bullying and domination while exploiting these species for pleasure and profit.”

Appalled and outraged, Our Companions Animal Rescue called upon the public to help send the message to the team’s President and General Manager that their plan to bring the Cowboy Monkey Rodeo to Connecticut was not supported.

Fortunately, the message was heard loud, clear, and quickly, prompting the event to be canceled.

“Breaking news update, thank you for all of your calls and emails,” shared the animal welfare organization. “This just in from the Hartford Yard Goats: I wanted to let you know that today the Cowboy Rodeo Monkey show was canceled. They will no longer be coming to the ballpark- and never will!”

This is a much-needed reminder that all of us can make a difference, effectively be the voice for the voiceless, and help make the world a more compassionate place where humans and animals can peacefully co-exist.

While there is much more that needs to be done, WAN is thrilled to share this awesome example of animal advocates knocking it out of the ballpark!

Keep up the good work!
