Breaking! Queen Elizabeth’s Recent Speech Confirms The Government’s Plan To Ban Trophy Hunting Imports In The UK

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth stood before the Parliament revealing the Government’s plan “to promote and protect the welfare of animals, including banning imports from trophy hunting,” during her speech on Monday.

WAN and Peace 4 Animals, along with animal advocates worldwide, celebrated after the Queen confirmed the ministerial plan to finally put an end to trophy hunting imports to the UK.

“We are so proud that Queen Elizabeth has made the compassionate decision to promote the value of the lives of such threatened and endangered species worldwide and stop the import of wild animal ‘trophies’ for so-called ‘sport.’ Trophy hunting is becoming socially unacceptable and we look forward to it becoming a thing of the past.” said Katie Cleary, Founder of World Animal News and Peace 4 Animals.

According to The Humane Society of the United States, each year, hundreds of thousands of wild animals from around the world are killed in trophy hunts where the primary motivation is to obtain animal parts for display and for bragging rights.

Once the UK makes the ban official, it will certainly send a clear message to the international community that there is no place for trophy hunting, especially in this day and age.

“This is the best birthday present we could have hoped for,” said Eduardo Gonçalves, Founder of the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting, in a statement, “Trophy hunting is cruel, immoral, and is having a devastating impact on some of the world’s most vulnerable wildlife.”

“The gene pool of the African lion has shrunk by 15% as hunters have sought out the fittest and strongest animals. Their numbers are in free fall,” continued Gonçalves. “Elephants are also showing signs of reverse evolution. Their tusks are getting shorter on average. The combined rate of trophy hunting and poaching is now greater than the birth rate of African elephants.”

More than 50 celebrities, including Ed Sheeran and Liam Gallagher, signed an open letter last year in support of the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting, urging the UK Government to ban trophy hunting imports into Britain.

The Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting says it now wants to close a loophole in the CITES global wildlife trade law that allows trophy hunters to shoot endangered species for so-called “sport.”
