Vikram Bhosale emerged as a hero after a horrific accident nearly took the lives of a cow and her calf who were attempting to cross a road in India earlier this week.

According to the Pune Mirror, the animals were hit by a speeding bus on Tuesday in the Bhosari area of Pimpri-Chinchwad, India.

“It was a shameful incident as when I reached the spot, I saw that no one was coming forward to help the poor animals — everyone was just watching them die. Both were badly hurt and lying in a pool of blood, while the offending tempo driver simply fled,” Bhosale, who heroically performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the baby animal, explained. “The calf’s heart had almost stopped four or five times, and I thought I would not be able to save him. Finally, I resuscitated the calf and to my joy, it got up, ran to its mooing mother and began suckling.”

Bhosales’s valiant efforts did not end there as he then took the wounded animals to a nearby gaushala (cowshed), where they were treated and are now being rehabilitated.

The owners of the cows have yet to come forward.
