Today is the 84th birthday of the world-renowned primatologist, anthropologist, visionary, and founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, a global leader in the effort to protect chimpanzees and their habitat for future generations.
Under the curious, caring, and extremely competent hands of “Dr. Jane,” the Jane Goodall Institute has grown into a trailblazing conservation organization; one that has successfully “redefined species conservation to include the needs of local people and the environment.”
Among its many distinctions, the Institute is heralded for establishing innovative community-centered conservation and development programs in Africa, as well as for creating the Jane Goodall Roots & Shoots global environmental and humanitarian youth program, which is currently operational in 120 countries!
An inspirational and energetic role model and mentor, at 84-years-young, Jane continues to spend up to 300 days a year traveling the world to educate and enlighten others about the threats facing chimpanzees and environmental crises because as she has said, “Only if we understand, can we care. Only if we care, we will help. Only if we help, we shall be saved.”
