Happy National Pet Day & Happy News! Zac Efron Adopts Dog Minutes From Being Euthanized!

It’s National Pet Day and while animal-lovers everywhere know that every day is special when you have pets in your life, today is even more meaningful; especially for Zac Efron and his new dog, Maca!

Why? Because the compassionate actor recently saved the life of this sweet dog who was on her way to be euthanized.

Last week Efron shared the heartwarming news on Instagram accompanied by an important message encouraging people to adopt not shop!

“Hey planet, this is MACA,” he posted along with a photo of him with his new forever family member and the hashtag “#adoptdontshop!

Efron adopted the Maca after volunteering to foster her for Bark n’ Bitches in Los Angeles.

“Tilly now MACA was being led to the kill room when we stepped in and said we would take her,” Bark n’ Bitches, the area’s ‘first humane retail shop with the heart to rescue’ shared on its Instagram page. “She was turned around and brought to us! This guy named Zac Efron (we hear he is an actor, but we think he actually waits tables) came in and fell in love. He went through our application process and fostered MACA and just could not give her back. So MACA now lives with Zac! This is her happily ever after! Happy life MACA! Happy Life.”
