Tragically, it is the time of year again when thousands of innocent dogs will be killed during the annual Dog Meat Festival in Yulin which begins on Thursday, June 21st and runs through Saturday, June 30th.

The worst of the worst is on full display as people from all over the world participate in this appalling festival which continues to affect public health, animal welfare, and morality.

The Humane Society International estimates that between 10,000 and 15,000 dogs are consumed during the festival each year with a large percentage of the animals having been stolen from their human parents or raised on dog farms.

Many people eat dog meat because they falsely believe that depending on how savagely the animals are tortured to death, whether it be by hanging, skinning or by boiling them alive, it will keep off evil spirits.

The Yulin Dog Meat Festival must end!

“We have spoken with several people working within the mayor’s office, the food and drug administration and the municipal building and no one seems aware of a Yulin festival ban,” said Jason Baker, Vice President of International Campaigns at PETA. “However, the government of China keeps on looking for other ways to get away from this. Although the government of China refuses to end this festival, people like us have put in efforts to stop this festival by creating petitions and protests against the festival.”

Dogs everywhere deserve to be treated humanely and to have the opportunity to live life safely, loved, and cared for by their forever families.

We must keep pressuring the government of China by boycotting Chinese manufactured products and implementing laws to stop illegal dog trade.

People are encouraged to sign this Care2 Petition to help urge Guangxi’s Autonomous Region’s People’s Congress Standing Committee to end the Yulin festival, HERE!
