BATON ROUGE, Louisiana: A woman and her dog were rescued from Louisiana after her small red convertible rapidly began to sink.
As the car became submerged, a rescue worker shouted at another rescuer to give him a knife, which he later used to open the convertible as it sunk.
He shouted to the other rescuer, “Give me a knife, give me a knife,” and quickly pried open the convertible as it sunk.
As he freed the driver and brought her to the surface, she gasped for air. Her first words were, “Get my dog! Get my dog!”
The rescuer then dove into the water and emerged with the woman’s small dog.
At last count, 20,000 stranded residents and at least 500 pets have been rescued from the floods which have devastated the area.
