The recently released  Top Trends in Prepared Foods in 2017 report, which outlined the key consumer and innovation trends currently impacting innovation in prepared foods, further confirmed that veganism and maintaining a plant-based lifestyle are becoming more of the norm than ever before.

According to Report Buyer, at the end of last week, the information that was compiled by research firm Global Data indicated that 6% of people in the United States now identify as vegan; an extraordinary increase from the 1% noted in 2014.

Vegetables, according to the enlightening report “are the most frequently consumed food globally, with a quarter of global consumers eating them almost every day.”

As noted in the summary of the report, the increased demand for meat free products and substitutes is due to “rising veganism and awareness of the impact of meat consumption.”

Abstaining from eating meat topped the list of six key trends focused on in the report.

The 50-page document also pointed to an increase in conscious eating as “consumers connect ethical and sustainable lifestyles with well-being and wellness,” subsequently creating a greater demand for more ethically prepared foods.

Additionally, “with meat consumption being continually blamed for negative effects on the environment, lab-grown meat may make its way into the mass market to combat these concerns,” stated the report.

“It also represents a cruelty-free option.”

According to the summary provided by the research organization, “a group of social-savvy tech teams are promising cruelty-free cultured ‘chicken’ will be available by 2022.”

The bottom line is that while many diets are diverse, there is an undeniable gradual shift in favor of plant-based, cruelty-free foods.

Great news for humans and animals alike!

WAN whole-heartedly endorses veganism and adopting a plant-based lifestyle.
