Plant-Based Meats Are Becoming Mainstream As Nearly 1/4 Of Americans Are Now Consumers

Nearly one-fourth of U.S. consumers report eating plant-based meat or seafood products, revealing that plant-based eating is going mainstream and no longer niche, according to market research firm Packaged Facts in the new study Meat, Poultry, & Seafood Alternatives: Plant-Based & Cultured Cell-Based Types.

The report explains that more consumers than ever want to eat plant-based foods because:

It is encouraging to understand and acknowledge the reasons why Americans want to eat more plant-based foods. It is especially notable that people worldwide are paying attention to the tragic yet critical news coverage of factory-farming and the impacts it has on climate change.

As per Packaged Facts’ August 2020 National Online Consumer Survey, 23% of consumers claim to eat any variety of plant-based meat products. “There are opportunities to target this burgeoning minority of consumers who may be persuaded to use larger volumes of plant-based meat in their diets,” Jennifer Mapes-Christ, Packaged Facts’ food and beverage publisher said in a statement.

Historical sales of plant-based meat products are available for 2018 and 2019, as well as forecasts for 2020, 2024, and 2029 throughout the report.

We hope that more Americans will make well-informed decisions and choose compassionate plant-based options that are healthier, better for our planet, and its species.

You can help all animals and our planet by choosing compassion on your plate and in your glass. #GoVeg
