More Turbulent Times For United Airlines; Giant Baby Rabbit Is Found Dead In Cargo Hold

The skies have not been so “friendly” for United Airline passengers as of lately.

Marking the third tumultuous turn for United this month, came news that a giant rabbit, en route to his new home, died on a flight traveling from the UK to the United States.

According to an article in the Daily Mail, the U.S. Department of Transportation reported that 35 animals died in air transit in 2015. While that number reflects the total loss from all of the country’s 17 main carriers, nine of the deaths occurred on United Airlines; the most of any airlines.

Simon, the ten-month-old 3ft continental giant rabbit, was well on his way to outgrowing the world’s current biggest rabbit, his 4ft 4in dad, Darius.

“Simon had a vet check-up three hours before the flight and was fit as a fiddle,” his world-renowned breeder, Annette Edwards, told The Sun. “I’ve sent rabbits all around the world and nothing like this has happened before.”

Edwards, from Worcester, claimed Simon died in the cargo hold of a flight from Heathrow Airport to Chicago O’Hare International Airport.

This comes just weeks after the besieged airline hit the headlines when a doctor was dragged off a plane by stewards at O’Hare airport.

Continental Giants are one of one the largest breed of rabbits in the world and, according to continental-giant.com, with proper feeding and care they can live up to five to seven years of age.

United Airlines, which is currently “reviewing this matter,” said it was saddened by the news of Simon’s passing.

Forget April showers, for United Airlines the old adage “when it rains it pours” has never been more accurate. The besieged airlines has been marred with multiple mishaps this month including the headline making news that a 69-year-old physician had been dragged off a flight on April 9, leaving him with a broken nose and a concussion, as well as the buzz about another passenger being stung by a scorpion on a United flight from Houston, Texas to Calgary, Alberta the following week.
