Urgent Help Needed Before Senate Votes On Re-Opening Horse Slaughterhouses In The U.S.


The Appropriations Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives voted earlier this week to advance a measure that would lift the current ban on slaughtering horses at meat processing plants in the United States.

The appalling amendment will be voted on by the Senate next week; making it critical for people to do what they can Now to stop it from passing.

According to reports, 27 members of Congress voted against the Representatives Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA) and Charlie Dent (R-PA) introduced amendment while 25 members supported it.

How can you help? Contact Representatives and Senators immediately to request that they co-sponsor the Safeguard American Food Exports (SAFE) Act and vote against reopening horse slaughterhouses in the United States.

Introduced at the beginning of this year, SAFE amends the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to include equine parts as an unsafe food additive or animal drug. The bill also prohibits the knowing sale or transport of equines or equine parts for human consumption.

There are presently no horse slaughter facilities operating in the United States.
