Urgent Signatures Needed On Petition Against Massive 5-Day Cull Of 10,000 Camels In Australia During Drought & Wildfires

Tragically, the devastating wildfires in Australia that have already claimed the lives of an estimated one billion animals continue to burn.
With more animals at risk of becoming victims of the wildfire and the potential risk of extinction of many species, it is unfathomable to believe that a management board in South Australia’s far northwest approved a plan to intentionally kill 10,000 camels.
Sadly, the massive cull of feral camels has already begun and will continue for five days.
“The dire situation is compounded by dry conditions, animal welfare issues, threats to communities, scarce water supplies, health and environmental impacts, destruction of the country, loss of food supplies and endangerment of travelers across APY Lands,” Richard King, of APY Lands, said in a statement. “Given dry conditions and the large camel congregations threatening the APY communities and infrastructure, immediate camel control is needed.”
The so-called solution? Professional shooters in helicopters killing thousands of innocent camels and other feral animals. This must stop!
What? How can “destroying” and murdering innocent animals be in accordance with any standard of animal welfare, let alone the highest?
“This is in no way a legitimate response to the millions of animals already burnt to death in the fire,” notes a petition that will be sent to the Australian government. Instead of taking the innocent lives of these poor camels, the government needs to own up and take responsibility.”
