In a groundbreaking moment for fashion and animal welfare, Vogue Magazine has officially announced that it will no longer feature new animal fur in any of its global editorial content or advertising.
The announcement marks a seismic shift for one of the world’s most influential fashion publications. As the flagship of Condé Nast, Vogue’s global reach and cultural authority cannot be overstated. Its move away from fur signals not just a change in style, but a change in values, a definitive stand against cruelty in fashion.
The historic decision comes after a nine-month campaign led by the Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade (CAFT), a major win for compassionate fashion and a hopeful signal of change within the industry.
This victory was hard-won. Over the course of nine months, CAFT activists staged more than 100 protests across the globe. These demonstrations included disruptive actions and residential picketing outside the homes of Condé Nast executives and their business affiliates. The campaign also took aim at commercial connections, including protests inside the American Girl Doll store, due to its ties to Condé Nast through parent company Mattel.
One of the most poignant moments of the campaign came with the arrest of a Deaf/Disabled activist during a peaceful protest outside the home of a Teen Vogue employee, a stark reminder of the risks taken by those fighting for a kinder world.
CAFT’s relentless grassroots activism, coupled with mounting public pressure, made it impossible for Condé Nast to ignore the growing demand for ethical editorial standards. The result is a decision that aligns with the values of a more conscious generation.
Vogue’s fur-free announcement joins a growing movement sweeping across the fashion world. Many major fashion brands, including powerhouses like Gucci, Prada, Versace, Burberry, and Chanel, have already gone fur-free in recent years. This collective shift shows that compassion is not just a trend, it’s the future of fashion.
Now, with Vogue stepping into this progressive space, the domino effect is expected to accelerate. The hope is that other publications, designers, and industry leaders will follow suit, leaving behind outdated practices of animal exploitation and embracing cruelty-free alternatives.
We applaud Vogue and Condé Nast for listening, responding, and ultimately choosing compassion over cruelty. To the countless activists and supporters who made this possible, this victory belongs to you. And to the rest of the fashion world: the time is now. Make compassion the fashion!
