The fast moving Sandy Fire continues burning through Ventura County, impacting parts of Los Angeles County while threatening homes, wildlife, and animals throughout the region.
The wildfire reportedly began around 10:50 AM Monday morning near Sandy Avenue in Simi Valley and rapidly spread through dry brush fueled by dangerous fire conditions and strong winds. According to reports, the blaze may have started after a tractor allegedly struck a rock, sparking nearby vegetation. Officials say the exact cause remains under investigation.
The fire has now burned approximately 1,386 acres and is currently about 5% contained as more than 750 firefighters continue battling the blaze from both the ground and air. At least one home has reportedly been destroyed, while more than 17,000 residents remain under evacuation orders and warnings.
