On June 24, two catastrophic earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 struck northwest Venezuela. The nation is facing one of its worst disasters in decades, with at least 235 people dead, over 4,300 injured, and thousands still missing.

Amidst this tragedy, stories of resilience continue to shine. Firefighters with the Caracas Fire Department rescued a frightened puppy after hearing cries coming from beneath the rubble of a collapsed building. After carefully pulling the exhausted puppy to safety, rescuers immediately gave the dog water before continuing their search for survivors.

Monic, a beloved dog, was also rescued alive from the rubble and reunited with her owner, though the owner’s mother remains missing. In another powerful moment of hope, a man emerged from a collapsed building carrying his two beagles to safety.

Rescue crews are working tirelessly despite damaged infrastructure and continuing aftershocks. The government has declared a state of emergency, and international aid efforts are underway.

While Venezuela faces immense hardship, these rescues, both human and animal, offer glimmers of hope. World Animal News is deeply grateful for every life saved, and we remain dedicated to sharing these stories of courage and compassion.

If you would like to support the ongoing rescue efforts in Venezuela, consider donating to organizations such as the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) or Red de Apoyo Canino, both of which are providing critical aid on the ground. Together, we can help bring relief to both people and animals as they recover from this devastating disaster.
