World Animal News and Peace 4 Animals are honoring the life and legacy of Dolly Parton, whose compassion reached far beyond the stage. Her love for animals remains a beautiful and meaningful part of the legacy she leaves behind.
Parton passed away on August 25, 2026, at the age of 80. Born and raised in Tennessee, she built an extraordinary career spanning more than six decades, with beloved songs including “Jolene,” “I Will Always Love You,” “9 to 5,” and “Coat of Many Colors.”
Beyond her remarkable career in music, Dolly will also be remembered for her love for animals and lifelong commitment to giving back.
One of the most meaningful parts of Dolly’s animal legacy was her decades-long commitment to bald eagle conservation through Dollywood’s partnership with the American Eagle Foundation.
The collaboration began in 1991 and became an important part of the American Eagle Foundation’s work, supporting lifelong care for eagles unable to return to the wild, while also advancing raptor rehabilitation, conservation education, and programs that helped release healthy bald eagles back into their natural habitat.
Over the partnership’s 35-year history, more than 400 bald eagles were returned to the wild through the American Eagle Foundation’s release efforts. The partnership also gave generations of Dollywood visitors the opportunity to learn about bald eagles, other birds of prey, and the importance of protecting wildlife.
By 2012, the American Eagle Foundation reported that Dollywood had contributed more than $6 million to support its conservation, animal care, and educational efforts.
Dolly’s commitment was also recognized nationally in 2003, when she received a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Partnership Award for her support of bald eagle conservation.
In 2008, she named and helped release a rescued bald eaglet named Liberty near the Great Smoky Mountains after the young eagle had fallen from its nest in Florida and was cared for by the American Eagle Foundation before being released back into the wild.
Dolly’s love for companion animals later inspired Doggy Parton, a collection of pet apparel, accessories, and toys launched in 2022.
A portion of the proceeds from Doggy Parton benefited Willa B. Farms Animal Rescue in Tennessee, helping the nonprofit provide rescue, rehabilitation, shelter, and ongoing care for animals in need.
In a fitting connection between her music and love for animals, Dolly’s first single was titled “Puppy Love,” recorded when she was just 13 years old.
Dolly’s generosity extended far beyond animals. Following the devastating 2016 wildfires in East Tennessee, she helped establish the My People Fund to support families who lost their homes in the fires. She also founded Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in 1995, which grew into an international program providing free books to millions of children.
Dolly Parton will be remembered not only for her extraordinary music, but for the faith, kindness, generosity, and compassion that defined so much of her life.
