Heroic Dog Leads Florida Deputy To Missing, Injured 86-Year-Old Grandmother

A Florida family’s loyal dog is being hailed as a true hero after leading deputies to their missing, injured grandmother, a heartwarming rescue captured on body cam footage.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened on the evening of September 25, when an 86-year-old Destin woman failed to return home from her usual short walk with her son’s dog named Eeyore.

After more than an hour passed, her worried husband called for help. Deputy Devon Miller responded to the scene, where body cam footage shows the man explaining, “She never takes more than 10 or 15 minutes. It’s been almost an hour, over an hour now.”

Moments later, Miller’s patrol car camera recorded a remarkable sight, a large dog walking alone down the middle of the road toward the deputy’s vehicle.

“Hi, baby. Where’s your mommy?” Miller can be heard saying in the video. “Bring me to your mommy.”

Without hesitation, Eeyore turned and quickly began leading the deputy down a grassy, wooded path. Following the dog’s lead, Miller soon found the missing woman lying on the ground.

The relieved grandmother, visibly emotional, told the deputy, “He led you to me? He wouldn’t leave. He kept coming back to me. I’m not even his owner, I’m his grandmother. Oh, Eeyore, you’re a good boy.”

Authorities said the woman had fallen and injured her leg during the walk but was alert and conscious when found. She was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

Thanks to Eeyore’s loyalty and a deputy’s quick thinking and compassion, this story has become a testament to a dog’s devotion and a deputy’s lifesaving teamwork.

The Sheriff’s Office summed it up best in a Facebook post: “Sometimes heroes come with four legs and a wagging tail.”
