Major Victory For Wildlife: TUI Airlines Bans The Transport Of Hunting Trophies

In a major victory for wildlife, TUI Airlines has officially banned the transport of hunting trophies across its fleet, becoming the latest major airline to take a stand against the global trophy hunting industry.

Under its updated animal welfare policy, TUI Airlines will no longer transport hunting trophies in its air cargo operations, regardless of whether the trade is legal or illegal. The decision marks another significant step in the growing movement to reject the commercial transport of animals killed for so-called sport and reflects a commitment within the transportation industry to help protect wildlife.

The decision was welcomed by Humane World for Animals, which has long encouraged airlines and other transportation companies to prohibit the shipment of hunting trophies. According to the organization, 52 transportation companies across 26 countries now have restrictions on transporting hunting trophies, with nearly 80% banning them outright.

TUI now joins a growing list of airlines and transportation companies that have taken action against the trophy hunting industry. Among them are Air France, KLM, ITA Airways, Finnair, Air Canada, Emirates SkyCargo, Qatar Airways Cargo, Virgin Atlantic Cargo, DHL Express, Cargolux, and MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company. Together, these companies are helping reduce global support for the trophy hunting industry.

Every transportation company that refuses to carry hunting trophies helps weaken the global trade that supports trophy hunting. These policies also send a powerful message that wild animals are living, sentient beings deserving of protection, rather than commodities to be bought, sold, or displayed as trophies.

World Animal News and Peace 4 Animals applaud TUI Airlines for taking this important step for wildlife. We encourage other airlines, shipping companies, and transportation providers around the world to adopt similar policies. Every company that refuses to transport hunting trophies brings us one step closer to a future where elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, bears, wolves, and countless other wild animals are protected, respected, and free to live the lives nature intended.
