Mexico Is One Step Closer To Banning Testing On Animals For Cosmetics; Help Passage Of Similar Bans In The U.S. & Canada

In honor of World Day For Laboratory Animals, WAN is thrilled to share the news that Mexico’s Senate recently voted to outlaw the practice of animal testing for cosmetics, as well as the manufacture, import, or marketing of cosmetics tested on animals anywhere in the world after the law comes into force. The bill will now move on to the next stop in the legislative process, The Chamber of Deputies.

This puts Mexico in position to become the first country in North America to outlaw cosmetic animal testing.

“A few days ago, the Senado de la Republica plenary approved the elimination of cosmetic tests on animals,” Senator Ricardo Monreal stated in a post on his Facebook page, referencing the initiative that he presented eight months ago. “Every living being on the planet deserves to have their rights guaranteed.”

“Every bill brings us closer to a global end to this cruel and unnecessary practice,” Monica Engebretson, Head of Public Affairs North America for Cruelty-Free International said in a statement.  “We urge the USA to follow suit and get the Humane Cosmetics Act on the statute books as soon as possible.”

If you are living in the United States, take a few moments to use Cruelty-Free International’s email tool to contact your Representative and urge them to support the Humane Cosmetics Act HERE!

Canadians can get in touch with their MPs to urge them to enact a government bill to end cosmetic animal testing in Canada HERE!
