Man Arrested After Being Caught On Camera Throwing An Injured Cat Away In A Dumpster

A man has been arrested after being caught on video surveillance throwing an injured cat away in a dumpster in Laguna Hills, California. The incident has ignited intense concern within the animal welfare community and the public at large.

On Monday night, video footage captured the man discarding the injured feline near the 25000 block of Cabot Road. This shocking act triggered an immediate investigation by Mission Viejo Animal Services (MVAS), underscoring the critical importance of community vigilance in safeguarding vulnerable animals.

The timeline of events reveals a chilling picture of neglect and cruelty. The injured cat, now affectionately named Willow or BooBoo by MVAS staff, was discovered roughly 15 hours after being discarded—just moments before the dumpster was to be emptied.

Despite the severe trauma inflicted upon her, BooBoo’s spirit remains unbroken, and she continues to display remarkable resilience. This endurance, characterized by the affection she showers her caregivers, highlights the innate trust animals place in humans, even after experiencing betrayal.

In a recent update, Mission Viejo Animal Services (MVAS) shared that BooBoo remains under veterinary care and is showing signs of improvement. She was examined by a leading forensic veterinarian and is receiving continued treatment at a partner hospital.

“Through our social media, the cat’s owner came forward and identified the man seen in the video as her roommate. We conducted an investigation and have probable cause to believe that the suspect was in violation of animal cruelty,” said Mission Viejo Animal Services Supervisor Kyle Werner.

“We want to extend our sincere gratitude to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department for collaborating with us on this arrest and for taking the suspect into custody,” said Animal Services Director Brynn Lavison. “We also want to thank our nonprofit Dedicated Animal Welfare Group for being willing to assist any animal in need that arrives at our shelter and specifically for helping with the medical care of BooBoo.”

“Most importantly, we want the public to know how deeply we are moved by the outpouring of care and concern for BooBoo. Many of you have donated to her care; others have inquired about her adoption status; and most have expressed their disdain for animal abuse. We feel proud to be part of a pet-loving community that truly cares about the animals who share our lives,” concluded Lavison

BooBoo will eventually reunite with her loving owner, who was also a victim of this heinous crime. However, before that happens, MVAS will ensure that BooBoo is healthy, and the shelter is committed to her long-term safety.

We must ensure that animal abusers are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, using every available legal measure possible.

You can help all animals and our planet by choosing compassion on your plate and in your glass. #GoVeg
