Popular Vegan Cooking Show ‘New Day New Chef’ Wins Two Taste Awards At ‘The Oscars Of Food’

NEW DAY NEW CHEF, the popular vegan cooking show that is now streaming on Amazon’s Prime Video, just won two prestigious Taste Awards, which are considered to be “The Oscars of Food.” The eight-episode season, which debuted in February of 2020, won this year’s Taste Awards for Best Series Pilot and Best Filmed at Home Episodes.

Along with amazing vegan chefs, the season featured vegan athletes, including NBA legend John Salley and Olympian Dotsie Bausch, as well as bodybuilders, actors, and singers.

New Day New Chef: Support and Feed Edition garnered the award for Best Filmed at Home Episodes. This season, the show looked at the work of Maggie Baird, whose organization raises funds for vegan restaurants to make nutritious, delicious food for those in need. The season featured a slew of celebrities, including: Downton Abbey’s Lesley Nicol, Dynasty’s Elaine Hendrix, Lost’s Emilie de Ravin, and Dancing with the Stars’ Joanna Krupa. Filmmaker and Founder of Peace 4 Animals, Katie Cleary, also appeared in and executive produced the series. It even included a cameo appearance by Maggie’s Grammy Award-winning children, Billie Eilish and Finneas.

The plant-based cooking show is hosted by award-winning journalist and New York Times bestselling author Jane Velez-Mitchell, and produced through her non-profit, the JaneUnChained News Network, in conjunction with Emmy-winning Executive Producer Eamonn McCrystal of Inspired.

These two awards are both Viewer Choice Awards, reflecting the popularity of the series, which also airs on public television stations around the nation.

“Winning these Viewers Choice Taste Awards shows that the general public and consumers are embracing plant-based cooking as never before. Those ignoring the trend are advertiser-based media outlets who are controlled by their advertisers: meat/dairy/fast food/pharmaceuticals,” Velez-Mitchell told WAN. “It’s time the cooking networks acknowledge changing consumer sentiment and show people that vegan cooking is delicious, nutritious, and fun.”

The series is about to tape its next season, New Day New Chef LIVE, which will feature some of America’s top chefs showing off their plant-based skills in the kitchen.
